vintage gear > VALVE TECHNIQUES

In the recording process we often use valves; valve microphones (connected to an external power), valve pre-amps and valve compressors.
By putting the valve pre-amp close to the source, before the signal enters the mixing console, a loss of signal is prevented.
The characteristics of a good valve enlarges headroom and dynamics. In practise, it's putting the signal right there in front of the mix.

From our EAB VC60 Geiling valve mixer (1959!) we use six pre-amp channels with the famous EF-86 valves (these are the ones used by Neumann U67 microphones). Ideal for combining a crystal clear digital recording with a layer of vintage fatness.

Also in our collection: 2 Studer C37 valve mastering recorders and the EMT 140 valve plate reverb.
